"Hitch fit perfectly on the car. Drilling the holes to install the hitch was not that easy, but overall it was an OK experience. Quality of the hitch is excellent."

"This the body of the email I sent to Curt Manufacturing regarding the hitch I purchased for my Buick Encore. The bottom line is that the hitch did not line up with the mounting holes, the hardware provided was wrong, and the instructions need correction. After installing two Hidden Hitches and two Curt Hitches in the last five years, this is the first time the installation went sour.
"I recently purchased and installed a Curt Class 1 hitch for my 2014 Buick Encore through J.C. Whitney, part number 11358. I encountered several problems of which you should be aware that turned this into a two-afternoon, 5 hour installation. I have mounted four hitches in the last few years so I am familiar with the procedures. The last one was also a Curt hitch, for a Suzuki SX4 and, in contrast, that one popped right in in just about an hour.
Referring to your Installation Instructions, to begin, in Step 3, contrary to what you state, it is unnecessary to enlarge the access holes in the vehicle frame as the spacers and carriage bolts fit in easily. It is only necessary to unsnap the brake lines on each side from the plastic clips, there is more than enough slack in the lines to raise them an inch or so out of the way.
Step 4, installing the bottom mounting bolts through the frame and lifting the hitch into position was straightforward, the problems began from then on.
In Step 5, the instructions state that the carriage bolts need to be fished through the frame rails and through the vertical mounting points. This is not possible as those holes in the frame rail are threaded fittings, so they require a different size bolt to attach the hitch to the rail at those points from the outside through the hitch mounting points. Even if the bolts provided had been the correct thread, they would have been useless as they are carriage bolts and cannot be tightened with a wrench of any kind. I found a couple of bolts in my loose hardware that were the correct thread (I believe they are M12, definitely metric), but I could not line up the hitch to pass the bolts through. I spent about an hour and a half raising, lowering, and pulling on the hitch, tightening and loosening the bottom bolts that were holding it in place, but no amount of adjustment allowed me to line up the bolts through the hitch to tap into the threaded holes. I quit for the day and removed the hitch.
The next day, I went to the local Ace Hardware store to purchase the additional two mounting bolts I needed. $4 for two bolts! They insisted that they were SAE, so I took them home and proceeded to discover that I had been correct in stating that they were metric. Back to the hardware store to exchange them for the correct bolts.
Now, knowing the impossibility of aligning the hitch with the mounting holes, I had to remove the bottom mounting bolts, take a drill with a rotary file and enlarge those two holes in the direction of the rear of the vehicle to give the hitch more play; then fish the bolts through once again, raise the hitch back into place, and start the trial and error positioning. I thought that I had enlarged the holes substantially but as it turned out the mounting points of the hitch were so far off that I had done so just enough that I was able to just barely get the four bolts (two per side) to bite the threads and finish the job.
Maybe it's because this is a new model, just introduced in 2013, but I hope you take note of the discrepancies in your instructions, and that the hardware you provide with the kit is not the correct size to do the job. It should have been much easier.""
