" I recently needed to get a new radiator for my 2007 300c SRT8 Chrysler. I first contacted the manufacture for a point of reference knowing that they would most likely be the most expensive. I then compared their price and availability to that of the local automotive parts stores and found a slight savings over the dealer but a much higher chance of getting the wrong part and/or lower quality, which was based on the lack of assurance given to me by the auto stores on whether what they showed as available through their suppliers was even the right one.
Lastly, I checked online and assessed several resources of availability of some sort of guarantee that would be receiving the correct part based solely on their individual methods used to ensure I received the right part. JC Whitney's question and answer method of determining what I was ordering was going to be the right part when it arrived. With the most confidence that I could develop from any of my choices stated so far, I ordered the part that the computer stated was the correct OEM part for my make and model. Additionally, they also were selling it for the best price that I had found so far when compared to all of the resources at my disposal.
What I received 14+ days later after providing my credit card to pay for the part, including all taxes and shipping, was to all appearances the correct part without damage. I took the radiator to my local trusted mechanic who was going to install it first thing the next morning and have the car ready by 11 or 11:30 am making it possible to still make it to work before noon. I then got a call from my mechanic at 10 am informing me the radiator was one of three that were used on my year make and model. Unfortunately, just not the right one of the three that were used. The cost was much higher as expected, but then was told upon my arrival it was the only option to get the right part due to the manufacture/dealer being the only one with access and authorization to sell what I needed. I had him proceed based on having no other known options.
Now I am in the beginning stages of returning the incorrect part for a refund so will write again when the final chapter is written. Not off to a very good start so far, so the only hope I have is that the customer experience of returning the part for a full refund of my purchase price and taxes will be cheerfully and promptly achieved. "
