Poor Engineering
May 10, 2012

Pros: Looks
Cons: Seals, Fit, Rain gutters, Latches
"I just installed the G2 on my 2010 Chev. Silverado 2500HD. The 45 min. install time turned to 4 hours due to poor fit.
The concept of the BAK Flip G2 is a great concept, the product is manufactured with quality materials and the shipping is not only timely but also great care is given in packaging and protecting the cover in transport.
However, the engineering lacks in almost all areas. The gutter drain tubes are in the front not the back as pictured, and manufactures recommendation is to drain the tube between the bed liner and bed, not through the stake pocket as pictured. Furthermore the ends of the rain gutter are not sealed to contain and funnel the runoff into the drain tubes. If I had wanted rust between my bed liner and bed I would have not purchased a bed cover.
The cover is not designed to be installed with tailgate covers and due to the length of the rails requires the cutting away of any tailgate protection. Even with the tailgate covers cut away the rails are forced forward to where there is ¼ inch gap under the front weather seal.
The bumpers for movement with the cover folded up strike not the cab but the back window and without a doubt will break the rear window if driven in the up position. The front and rear weather seals are questionable at best with the rear weather seal folding into the bed at the tailgate.
The rear latches require much work to fasten them. This is due to the placement of the rear clamps even when secured at the rear most possible position allow too much flex in the rail for the latch to fasten without operator intervention.
The first good rain after installation there was leakage toward the front of the cover. I am not looking forward to a run through the car wash. The BAK Flip G2 fails in all areas but looks."

Been through 2 of these

Pros: Easy to install, secure
Cons: Falls apart, hardware comes loose, does not age well
"I purchased my 1st cover in 2007 for my 2006 F-150. It was easy to install but within a year it was falling apart at the hinges. The rivets were breaking loose of the plastic and it was pretty much useless. I contacted BAK and they sent me the new and improves G2 cover. That has lasted until now (9/2011) but it too is now falling apart and I think I'll be lucky to make it through the winter. I'm seeing similar problems with the rivets and the panels themselves are cracked and sagging. The other comments about security and ease of installation are correct but unfortunately the cover is just not durable. I really don't open and close the cover that often either and would imagine heavy use would result in an even faster failure rate."

Pros: Good Idea
Cons: Did not fit properly, buckled, Tape dried and fell off, rusted...
"In defense of the Tonneau Cover I probably should have done more research on it. I’ve had it on my 2007 Dodge, short bed with factory bed liner for 2 years. The thing basically just fell apart. I did do some trimming to try to accommodate the truck but that didn’t help. It leaked like a sieve. The Tape and glue at the end on the panel ends eventually dried up and I couldn’t close the thing right since, I was very surprised to see the hardware begin to rust?? I finally pulled it off and will always be weary of the product."

Excellent choice

Pros: Sturdy design and easy installation
Cons: Minor leaking
"I would rate this top a 4.5, but without that choice I went with 5 of 5 stars. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. It took me 35 minutes to install it. I am very impressed with the contruction and design. I'm glad I didn't opt for a vinyl top, and this allows me to carry larger items that a solid flip top wouldn't. I do have leaks at the front of the bed that may be from the rhino lining on the lip, which is preventing a tight seal. There is another small leak at one of the hinges. No matter, this provides graet security and protection."
