"I like the boots -- the material is soft and flexible as opposed to the hard one from which the OEM boots are made; the package includes enough high quality high-temperature grease to lubricate the metal parts and fill the boot itself, and it also includes a wire retainer ring.
At the first glance the metal bands that come with the package look a little flimsy. Although it is possible to tighten the bands up using just pliers and a wide flat screwdriver, I found that it is much better to use a special tightening tool for this operation (I used a Lisle CV Joint Banding Tool).
However, on the second thought, the bands are quite alright and fit the soft boot material well.
Also, I found out that it is a good idea to wrap the axleshaft splines with a plastic bag from a grocery store to avoid damaging the boot during the reassembly.
One more piece of advice: you will need a small three-jaw puller to remove the tri-pot assembly ("spider") / inner race from the axleshaft.
Also, use a little bit of grease that comes with the boot to lubricate the inner end of the driveaxle assembly -- the one that goes into the gear box or differential. Otherwise, it would be quite difficult to re-install the driveaxle assembly.
Before buying the boots, I first considered replacing the whole driveaxle on my Subaru with a refurbished one. Nonetheless, having read horror stories about refurbished driveaxles that immediately break and fall apart, I decided to stick to my current driveaxle and just replace the broken boot.
I think this is the way to go."
