My Video Review
"Most of this review is related to my '06 Ranger installation. The last half of this review is more about generic problems.
The outer sets of holes barely lined up with my hood. The hardware didn't sit snug and flush (and barely went in). This is due to the curve of the hood metal and the corresponding curve in the bug shield at the outer mounting locations. --PICTURE ATTACHED ABOVE--.
The factory hood bumper/damper was not mentioned in the generic instructions. But you need to pull it off and reattach while installing the bug shield. --PICTURE ATTACHED ABOVE--.
Most bug shields have "bumpons" that you stick to the hood to keep the bug shield from contacting the hood and wearing away your paint. The supplied bumpons had very little adhesive left. They would fall off at the slightest touch. And I cleaned and dried the hood very thoroughly. So I touched the adhesive to check it, and it was less sticky than scotch tape. Maybe I just got a old set of bumpons.
This bug shield scratches very easily. Even with 100% cotton towels. The good news is these scratches are superfine. It won't be noticeable from a distance. But I bet the finish will turn from gloss to flat over time and after washings. I bought my other vehicle with a bug shield already on it, and it has this same problem, so maybe it's just the case with all of them. Or maybe just the inexpensive ones. I don't know.
