A common problem of owning an RV is how to completely drain the fresh water tank. Usually after a camping trip you would empty the fresh water tank to keep it clean in preparation for your next camping expedition. But no matter how much you try to drain the tank still there’s moisture left in the water system that could become a breeding ground for bacteria and some other forms of organisms. Just thinking that you are to get drinking water from the grimy fresh water tank is inconceivable. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to minimize water contamination.

You can try using white non-toxic drinking hoses. If it’s not labeled safe for drinking then refrain from purchasing it. You may also disinfect tank by adding ¼ cup of bleach for every 15 gallons of water. Simply allow the mixture to settle in the tank for three hours before emptying the tank completely. Rinse the tank with clean water preferably drinking water to get rid of remaining bleach.

If you really want to be safe, it would be best if you would have a separate non-toxic fresh water tank hose that is to be used solely for drinking water.
