"I bought the barrier and the extender to use in my Tacoma Access Cab pickup. I have two medium-size dogs, but I mainly needed it for just one of them. She is mostly Walker Coonhound with an extreme prey drive. I wanted the barrier so she couldn't leap over the console into the front seat. I'm afraid she might go right out the window after something, whether the truck was parked or travelling down the interstate!
The installation was fairly simple, but doesn't feel as secure as I'd hoped. It's about as tight as I can get it without using tools to turn the wing nuts. The cross bars could have a better system to secure them, perhaps holes in the uprights with a pin? I'm pretty sure I could move them if I tried, again, even though they're tightened all the way. If you have an 80 pound dog who puts his feet up on them they may not stay put without adding more hardware.
The thing that most floored me, however, was that the "trombone" arms don't lock in place! They slide in and out with the touch of a finger! Granted, some dogs would never figure this out, but I wouldn't bet my dogs' lives on that. So I added electrical tape like someone had mentioned in an earlier review.
Overall, I believe this set-up will suit my purposes. I had hoped it would be secure enough that I would feel comfortable leaving the windows down to run into a convenience store or some other VERY short departure from my truck, but I'm not that comfortable with it. It will work just fine as long as I'm right in or near the vehicle, so I guess it's good enough!

"The problem I have with this barrier was I have to choose between tightening it so tight it messes up the liner on the celing of my vehicle or having it loose enough my lab will knock it down. Would be great for small dogs but if you got a big dog it aint gonna work out."

"One of my dogs is a regular Houdini, she can escape from nearly any confinement (doors, gates, etc.) by either stratagem or main strength. She prefers the front seat. The dog barrier so impressed her, she didn't even appear to have tried. Easy and straightforward to install, I didn't even need to refer to directions.
Definitely met expectations."

"When in my Ford Taurus wagon, my 95 lb Lab liked to come up from the rear to ride shotgun and help drive (adjust mirrors, grab shifter, tune radio). I installed the barrier and am very satisfied.
Assembly instructions were clear and correct. The wingnut tension adjustment is simple. The barrier's sturdiness is limited only by how tight you make it against the headliner.
Since the barrier blocks the area above the seatbacks, I can fold down the seats and place long items in back (between the posts) without having to remove the entire barrier.
"
Pros: Looks great; easy to install and remove
Cons: Strength & firmness limited by headliner's durability
