"This gauge is really bright, and if you hook up the
purple wire to your headlight wiring, it won't dim by
much--maybe as little as 30% Installation is a three-wire hookup: black to the ground, red to the +12 volt
source, and,if you desire the 'dimming' feature, the purple wire to your headlight wire. I hooked up the
black and red to a 9V battery, and the display blinked twice every second,
evidently because the voltage is below 10 volts DC. Once it's hooked up to a car battery, it stops its blinking feature. Works nicely--and it's accurate. I checked it with a digital volt-ohm meter."

"on this sitution the oem gauge plugs into a circuitboard of all things so with timethe connections become problematic. so the reason for the previous comment is obvious. however if you try to get a oem gauge it will get you a big laugh. evean if you could get one the connection to the board would be a problem due to age."
Pros: it is available seems to be a dash fit unit.
