Uniweld A/C valve core replacement tool, June 9, 2008

Pros: It works and is less expensive than competitors
Cons: Threaded connections after the quick disconnects do not match R134A hoses etc.

"I have a 94 Saturn. The quick disconnects fit very well on my A/C hoses, but the threaded connections after that are for R-12. You cannot hook your standard R-134 gauges directly to the tool. The tool permits the removal and replacement of the core valve, however if you need to recharge your system you will need to remove the tool and connect your standard R-134 gauges to the system. Presumably you would need to recharge because the valve was leaking. If need to evacuate the system, you don't need this tool. This means you need to have the proper fittings for your vacuum pump. Most pumps made during the 1990s had both an R-12 and R-134 fitting. Mine does. The tool manufacturer claims that you can evacute up to three times faster with the valve core removed. This is true if you can connect your pump to the non- R-134 fittings on the tool."
