Easy to Fit with simple Mod,

How often do you shop at JC Whitney.com? Multiple Times a Year
"Great product for after market add on to my 2004 Ford Ranger Tremblor. Simple instructions, simple tools, Torx#30 for tailgate cover removal and a flat head screwdriver for opening plastic clips.
At first would not fit correctly and allow lock-unlock. Found that the gold colored "latch" that fits into the plastic tailgate handle slot was not aligning correctly. Stamped and bent metal had some raised edges. Used a small metal file and filed down the edges and some length to the "L" shaped lock. took 5-10 minutes of filing and checking the fit and operation.
Overall install took 40-45 minutes with mod time.

How often do you shop at JC Whitney.com? Once a Year
"Over priced for what you get. Great idea, poor execution. Easy to fix if you have a welder but then you'll have to repaint it if you want it to look good. There are two tangs on the inside/backside of the lock to hook the inside of the sheet metal of your tailgate. They are spot welded on and will not last because the weld is weak and subject to failure from minor surface corrosion."
Pros: Looks good, worked fine initially
Cons: Wimpy spot weld failed within one year of use negating utility of the product.

"I got this to protect my Ram 1500 bed and tailgate from quick snachers. Although the photo does not match the unit I received, It does do the job. It may not stop all efforts, but it will slow them down."
Pros: Easy Install
Cons: Can get past it if really want to.
