" Just installed in less than 30 seconds on my 2007 NBS Chevy! My truck did not have the tow package, but the piece on the bumper twists out and this part twists in it's place. The wiring is plugged to the dummy plug and you just remove and plug it into this and that is ALL! Works perfectly! "
Pros: Price/Ease of Installation/Fast Ship

Chevy/GM "trailerites" rejoice!

How often do you shop at JC Whitney.com? Multiple Times a Year
" I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban that I bought used, which includes the Chevy OEM tow package, e.g., a factory installed tow bar and trailer wiring harness/plug assembly.
At the end of the OEM wiring harness is a female plug that fits snugly into the back side of this socket, so snugly in fact that unlocking and pulling the harness plug out of the socket for the first time can be a bit tough. This is because the wiring harness plug is equipped with a rubber O-ring seal, e.g., to keep dust and moisture out of the area where the harness plug contacts mate with the socket contacts. When you pull it out, it's like pulling a cork out of a bottle of wine.
The socket itself twists and locks into an OEM bracket that's spot welded onto the tow bar, just to the left (or driver side) of the tow bar receiver/hitch assembly. Once installed, the socket allows you to simply lift the dust cap and plug a universal 7-way trailer wiring adapter into the socket, for simple connection and removal of trailer wiring to/from the tow vehicle.
The problem is, if you've ever run your trailer tongue into this socket, or bumped it into a high curb, tree stump or rock, you've probably smashed the socket to smithereens and need a new one. If you go to the dealer for your replacement, you'll find that the dealer doesn't even offer the socket as a separate part, but expects you to pay about $80.00 for a trailer wiring harness "kit," that includes the socket and entire wiring harness. So, why the heck would anyone want to hassle with replacing their entire trailer wiring harness when only the socket at the very end of this assembly is broken?? Not me.
This replacement socket is almost identical to the OEM socket that I replaced. It's manufactured by Pollack, the same company that made the OEM socket for GM, and it fits perfectly in the Chevy/GM "twist and lock" bracket ... no screws or bolts required. The only difference between this socket and the broken one I replaced is that the original socket had "GM" stamped on the dust cap, and the new one has "Pollack" stamped on the dust cap.
The only "con" of this socket is that it's made of a dense plastic material instead of metal, so it's easily broken if you bash it into anything. However, now that I know where to get the perfect replacement socket, at a great price, who cares? If you break it, just buy another one, pop the old one out, and pop the new one in.
"
Pros: Literally identical to OEM socket, at a fraction of the dealer's price for a wiring harness "kit."
Cons: Fairly lightweight plastic construction, easily damaged.
