Features
SHUR GRIP® "Z" DESIGN CABLE TIRE CHAINS
  • Safety designed for easier starts, faster stops and better traction than any other chain
  • Patented "Z" design provides your car with continuous, aggressive traction under all ice and snow conditions
  • Meet the limited clearance requirements of vehicles labeled SAE Class "S" in the owner's manual
Part of the chain is in contact with the road at all times for superior take-hold traction — no gaps as with conventional chains. Cable chain is engineered for maximum wear, traction and riding comfort. It rides quieter and smoother than link chains. Ultra-strong aircraft cable is covered with carbon steel rollers. Sharp rotating roller edges bite deep into snow, ice and mud yet won't wear down sidewalls like link chains. Side cable/roller cable connector lies flat against tire — nothing to stick out and get caught on fender. "Z" design chains install easily even on vehicles with anti-lock brakes or all-wheel drive. Rubber tightener takes up all slack in chains — no adjustments ever! A durable plastic storage case and plastic gloves included. For FWD and RWD cars with radial and conventional tires.

For flat roads

"These chains are super easy to put on. I have little clearance on my sedan and yes the lock is tricky but the baginess prior to adding tensioners makes the process ridiculously easy compared to chains/cables you have to drive over and have the insert-lock system instead.
My problem is hills. Hills with snow on them. Which I guess is rare because all the tutorial videos show these chains much baggier than mine and yet I can't get up my driveway because after some sliding, a cable set will fly off. I've had ladder style cables that were much harder to put on and much less comfortable to drive on but I trusted them. The Z pattern's only advantage is on a well-maintained road and possibly sliding sideways."
Pros: Easy to put on, light, smooth
Cons: dig poorly, fall off

"It goes on smoothly, can be a little tough to hook and unhook inside connection. Fit my Altima well. I tried another companies product that fit the tire but hit the strut when underway. Nice carrying case."
Pros: Fit Altima when others didn't
Cons: inside hook hard to get in tight space

Z chains issues
January 16, 2008
DoctorV
"I am spending my time here only with a hope that the manufacturer will address the issues below in future models so I can buy eventually in particular.
I believe the chains are the best one can get today at least for the price and among those I found.
I actually just got the second pare, because of the issue #1, see below.
The driving is much quiter as expected indeed and it's easy to put (I am stong enough too for the rubber ring).
Two issues although:
#1. On deep snow, especially going up, the rubber ring system is not strong enough to hold the chain in place - as a result you are loosing the chain and, if you are lucky, digging it back from the snow. The chains with a strong lock would be never lost at the same conditions. This is a price to pay for convenience of putting them on with the rubber ring. I believe the rubber ring should be replaced by metal system with adjustment
2. In my EXL Honda Odyssey the use of chains resulted in a scratch-type damaging of the alloy whells look. After some time of driving in the area of the rubber ring contact with the alloy wheel, the last gets a black contour due to sanding by road dust/sand. This is irreversible and this is not what happens with regular lock system. The alloy wheels do not look like new anymore. This perhaps depends on the alloy whells shape. Respectively, perhaps a center peace could be provided to keep the ring apart from the wheels surface.
"
Pros: the best among available models
Cons: deep snow lost, damage to the alloy wheels polishing

My installing the tire chains -- under three minutes per tire!
"I used these chains on Mt. Hood (Oregon) on Christmas Eve '07. Being a mechanic, I know a little bit about tire chains. These chains are easy for one person to install, as long as that person is relatively strong. The chains hooked up quite easily, but the rubber tensioner that holds them in place is very difficult to install. It has to be stretched quite tight, which would be hard for some people to do (my wife can't do it). A quick release bar clamp (or similar item) would be great to help weaker people stretch the rubber to clip it to the chains. Once the chains are on, they work GREAT! The tires didn't spin or slip at all. I had the chains installed for about twenty-five miles, and they show no wear at all -- they could still pass as new! Overall, for a set of tires chains that can be installed in well under 10 minutes, and taken off in under five minutes, these are a great deal for the money. I have already recommended them to friends. Make sure to check out my video showing me installing one of the chains."
Pros: Excellent traction, excellent wear, no adjustments needed
Cons: Hard to install rubber tightener
