"I was looking to replace the old sloppy Idler arms for a more durable set of idler Arms that will last a longer time for my 1997 Chevy Astro Cargo van with 245,000 miles . I am experienced back yard mechanic , and I like to use aftermarket parts if they offer improved performance and durability. After some research and comparing products , reviews and price comparison I ordered the Moog 'problem solver ' Idler arms with improved permeable bearings that allow grease to penetrate completely to reduce wear. They are more pricy, but from reviews and with recommendations from some pro's I thought I would give them a try . they were not difficult to replace , with the help of an air impact driver, sturdy jack stands and use of a pittmanarm puller I rented for a refundable deposit at an action auto part store , the puller is really the best , fast, easiest way to "pop' the old arms off the linkage , and for free if you return the puller to the store which only a $15 tool . Pre install the grease fittings, I used a bench vise to hold the Idler arm assembly. I then Installed the new Idler Arms left and right side with original bolts to the framework , I used some lock tight on the threads and torqued tight to about 80ftlb, specs call for 55 pounds pounds but still seamed a bit to loose. and the bolts were large enough to go a little more . installed the linkage to the idler arm with the provided new castle nuts and torqued to specs 35-40 ft pounds and installed the cotter keys . a couple pumps of mobile one synthetic grease for each fitting re check all bolts and your done. took the van to get a realignment since it has never been checked and I had just installed new tires, so to avoid excessive tire wear . A noticeable improvement in steering after changing out the loose sloppy old idler arms and less wear on the tires . I always grease them each time I change oil so should last many miles. I would recommend the Moog brand to my friends."
Pros: competitive low price, heavy duty Moog sterring Idler arms for solving wear issues common with chevy astrovana
Cons: Moog parts are more expensive then other after market parts, however well rated as a good quality.
