How often do you shop at JC Whitney.com? First Time
"I work the graveyard shift in a classified facility set deep in a forest in a northern state. It's a 1hr commute and only 1 road in/out in winter. It's Imperative this post is manned 24/7/365 so a frozen engine is NOT a valid excuse. Lives depend on our getting through regardless of weather so when I spotted THIS coolant heater I bought and had it professionally installed AND recommended it to all the other personnel here.
After watching the technician install I realized most anyone with a basic knowledge of ICEs and the right tools could install it though.
It's not only great to have instant heat when switching on my vehicle's engine - it's a real life-saver which SHOULD be offered OEM on ALL vehicles! Not only does it HEAT the coolant - it PUMPS the heated coolant throughout the engine block warming the oil laying on the rockers and in the oil channels - thinning and ensuring it runs through and between the parts keeping them well lubed on even the COLDEST nights.
I can immediately tell it's working from the difference in sounds the engine makes turning over with or without the heater. WITH it the sound is identical to starting in summer. WITHOUT it the engine screeches as it turns over so whenever the temps drop below 40 it's hooked up at least 1/2 hr prior to driving. (no, it's not the belts) I bought the 1kw unit and even that costs only $0.11/kwh to run versus $0.75 (in fuel) to run the engine until I get the same heat this unit puts out - a VERY small price to pay for longer engine life, defrosted windows and a warm butt."

Pros: Instant hot air when the fan starts!
Cons: Should offer a 'quick disconnect' 3-prong jack.

"Money well invested. I use a 3 prong plug adapter to keep the brass male plug from the heater from getting corroded. Wouldn't live without one now. Installed in a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant ES 4 cyl."
Pros: warm air immediatly upon start-up. Defrosted windows in a 1/4 of the time. Only use when its teens or below
Cons: installation was done by Sears and they struggled with it but its in and works great

"Install in about 20min. If cord is to short just get a small extension cord and hook to it. I ran mine rite thrue the front grill for easy hook/unhook of power.It is nice to easily start my 1986 grandwagooner and have heat instantly on a 15 degree morning."
