Despite undergoing a recent redesign for 2019, General Motors shared that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is going to have another set of upgrades for the upcoming model year. This is part of the brand’s attempt to keep the vehicle competitive in one of the hottest segments in the industry.
Both interior and exterior make and design for the Silverado 1500 won’t be changed, but there will be a number of improvements in terms of power and technology.
First among the list of upgrades is the engine. The 6.2-liter V8 with the capacity of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque now becomes optional on five of the eight available trim levels instead of just the two highest trims. The V8 is paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission, allowing for a decrease in the entry-level price of the model. From roughly $50,000, the Silverado 1500 will now be priced at around $43,865 and will also be offered on the Custom Trail Boss, RST (when equipped with four-wheel drive), LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country models.
With this new upgraded V8, the truck can now be paired with models under the Silverado RST 4WD range. Its maximum towing capacity is also increased to 13,400 pounds when properly equipped, which is the top in its class.
The automaker, however, clarified that the 6.2-liter V8 will not be offered on the Work Truck, Custom, and LT trims.
Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer of Full-Size Trucks, shared they are making the upgrades to keep up with the continuous demand for more features, technology, and capability in the truck market.
“For 2020, we are delivering more in each of these areas. As a result, the Silverado now offers customers the most towing capability of any light-duty pickup and the most affordable light-duty truck with more than 400 horsepower,” he said.
Meanwhile, truck owners looking for more V8 power can look forward to a Performance Upgrade Package from the brand where the engine can go as high up with 435 hp and 469 lb-ft. torque thanks to a performance air intake and cat-back performance exhaust system.
