Coolant Temperature Sensor

How to Change a Coolant Temperature Sensor
Step 1: To begin, put a drip pan under the radiator and drain about a gallon of antifreeze.
Step 2: After that, find the wire that connects the sensor to the engine's wiring harness and use an open-end box wrench to disconnect it.
Step 3: Once you've disconnected the wire, observe if it has any melted parts or discolorations. Replace the wire if any of the two are present.
Step 4: Next, use either an open end wrench or socket and wrench to loosen the sensor until you can already remove it by hand. When it's loose enough, disconnect it from the engine block.
Step 5: Wrap the threads of the new sensor with Teflon tape and install it using your wrench of choice. Do not over tighten it to avoid damaging the new component.
Step 6: Attach the electrical connector to the coolant temperature sensor and replenish the antifreeze that you drained earlier.
Step 7: With the radiator cap atill off, start the engine and allow it to warm up. The thermostat will eventually open and the antifreeze will start to circulate. When this happens, replenish the antifreeze until the radiator is filled. Lastly, ensure that the overflow bottle is half full.
