2. Straight rate fork springs . Straight rate or linear fork springs are relatively newer. They have evenly spaced coils that need a specific amount of force in order to compress. This type of fork spring is best for high-performance street riders and racers who need a suspension system with a predictable behavior during braking and cornering.
Installing Fork Springs on Your Motorcycle
Getting aenew fork spring for your bike will only cost you around $50. Doing the task all by yourself will also save you cash. Here's a general guide that you can follow for your repairs.
Step 1: To begin, remove the handle bars of the bike and then use a center stand or lift to place beneath the motorcycle. Next, lift the front side of the bike about 1 or 2 inches up.
Step 2: Once it's up, put a block under the front tire to support it then loosen the fork cap.
Step 3: Next, use a wrench to pull the spring down to the nut on the spring guide and then use a socket to put it on the top part of the nut.
Step 4: After that, use a wrench to loosen the top nut in order to remove the cap completely.
Step 5: At this point, you ahould be able to remove the fork spring and tthe spring guide will fall into the shock. You can use long needle nose pliers to pull the guide back up and then use a wrench to hold in place.
Step 6: Next, replenish the oil that's been removed together with the old spring before dropping the new spring in. When it's in, reinstall the other components that you removed earlier.
