With a header installed, the engine and the main exhaust system of your vehicle are connected. When gas is burned, exhaust exits the engine and goes through the header where it is transferred to the muffler and catalytic converter.

Modifying the Color of Your Car's Header

Step 1: To begin, remove the header by loosening its mounting bolts.
Step 2: Once you've taken it out, use a rag and apply some degreaser on it to clean and wipe the component.
Step 3: When header is clean, let it to dry before stripping off its current paint. If it's is not painted, proceed to the next step. If it is, however, you need to apply paint stripper on it and wait for the paint to bubble to be able to remove it easily.
Step 4: Rusty headers are a no-no. Use a wire brush to remove any rust and then use 400-grit sandpaper to sand down the component.
Step 5: After sanding, apply some mineral spirits onto the header to clean it thoroughly.
Step 6: At this point, you can already spray several coats of primer onto the component, waiting for every coat to dry before applying another.
Step 7: And once you're satisfied with the primer, spray paint the header with about three to four coats of paint. Then, leave the paint to dry and cure for at least 24 hours before reinstalling the header back.
