Broken headlights are a bit expensive to replace. And driving without a good set can put you in danger, especially when in harsh weather, during pitch-black nights, or in poorly lit streets or roads. To prevent all of these from causing troubles, you can instead use some headlight covers. These will keep the headlights safe from tire-thrown rocks and road debris. Not only will they serve as a shield for the headlights, but these covers will also add some flair to your vehicle. Several headlight cover styles will help you create the kind of look that you have in mind. If you think new headlight covers are what you need, then here's how you can install these accessories:
Installing a headlight cover
Step 1: Clean the headlights and the covers. Prepare a bucket of mixed water and detergent. Go easy on the detergent.you want the soapy water to have light suds. With a sponge, wash the headlights and the covers, and then rinse them well. Use a clean cloth or rag to dry them thoroughly. To keep them clean, you may use alcohol wipes. Another good alternative is to wipe them clean with denatured alcohol using a lint-free or micro-fiber cloth.
Step 2: Set the headlight cover in place. Once lined up, peel off the tape of the cover. Make sure that the cover fits well. Peel off the other end of the tape and press the cover in place until it sticks. Do the same for the cover on the other headlight.
With headlight covers on, you have to learn how to clean them so that when oxidation starts to show, you'll know what to do to keep the covers clean and clear. This way, the covers won't restrict lighting. No need to run to a mechanic for the service or buy a new set.we'll teach you how to clean these headlight accessories. Here are the steps:
Cleaning a headlight cover
What you'll need:
- Soft toothbrush
- Regular white toothpaste (don't use gels or flavored pastes)
- Dish soap
- Warm water
- Soft, dry cloth
Step 1: Prepare the cleaning solution. Pour in some dish soap in a bucket with warm water. Dip the sponge on the bucket mix and then wash the covers. You have to use clean, warm water for rinsing them thoroughly. Once clean, you have to dry them using the soft cloth to ensure that there will be no scratches and unwanted marks. Make sure that they're clear of any stain or water spot.
Step 2: Squeeze some regular white toothpaste on the toothbrush. Scrub the covers with this, leaving no un-scrubbed spot. Again, use warm water for rinsing the covers thoroughly. If you find areas that haven't been scrubbed fully, repeat the step. Once rinsed, you have to wipe them dry with a clean, soft cloth.
Note: You can do this several times to keep each headlight cover clean and free from water spots. This will be helpful in prolonging the life of the cover.
