  • Going Places with Toyota

Toyota has become one of the leading automotive manufacturers in the world. Its growth can be attributed to the .kanban. way of manufacturing vehicles and producing Toyota parts. Since the beginning of Kiichiro Toyoda\'s efforts to build the automotive company in 1933, Toyota Motor Company has been innovating towards improving safety, efficiency, quality, and performance. But it has not really fired up on all cylinders until the end of the Second World War. Sure enough, the company has weathered countless setbacks throughout its journey to become the top automotive marque. Let us take a look at some highlights in its rich history of providing vehicles and quality Toyota parts to a worldwide market.

    Establishment during the war-time era

Toyota Motor Company is a derivative of the Toyoda Automatic Loom Company established by Japanese inventor Sakichi Toyoda. Having learned the tools of the trade from his father, Kiichiro Toyoda began his plans of developing a Japanese automobile. He took inspiration from American automakers and eventually was able to establish the automotive division within his father\'s company. Within two years of its founding in 1933, a prototype vehicle was introduced to the public. The direction of the company took a different turn as Japan entered the war when it bombed Pearl Harbor in December 7, 1941.

    Post-war growth and development

The production of civilian vehicles sprung back after the war in the 1950s. Unfortunately, founder Kiichiro Toyoda died in 1952. While the company mourned his passing, it continued its quest to develop Toyota auto parts. 1955 saw the emergence of the very utilitarian work horse Toyota Land Cruiser that evolved from the Toyota Jeep BJ. The iconic Toyota Corolla came into the automotive scene in 1966. It was the compact design and efficient engine like that of the Corolla made it Toyota a competitive rival against the lumbering American cars in the 1970s oil crisis.

Going up against USA\'s big three

Toyota\'s presence in the United States arrived in October 1957 when the marque established its first sales office in Hollywood, California. Its operations began in 1958 when it sold 287 Toyopet Crown sedans and one Land Cruiser. Ironically, just a few years later, the Land Cruiser gained a reputation as a dependable work horse while the Toyopet plummeted. The Land Cruiser became the Toyota USA\'s flagship vehicle until the Corona was introduced in 1965. As the market awareness slowly grew, it also became apparent that the company had to boost the production of Toyota accessories and Toyota spare parts in America.

As it went past its 25-year mark, Toyota found itself creating even more models for the American market. It also established production plants all around North America. Competition within the industry got tougher but Toyota answered with models like the 4Runner, Camry, Tundra, T100 and Prius. Furthermore, it created two new brand lines: Lexus and Scion.

    Toyota in present-day USA

Today, Toyota has an unwavering support in the United States. It has over 20 models in its line-up that includes cars, minivans, trucks, crossovers, SUVs, and hybrids. The offerings still include the Corolla, Camry, Tundra, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, and many more. As it becomes the popular choice for a growing number of Americans, retailers also have to craft ways to improve the Toyota parts online presence.
