How to Install a Winch Plate

To avoid having to replace your winch components, make sure you check the assembly on heregular basis. However, if the part is really damaged, then it's time to get a replacement. Here's a basic guide on how to install hewinch plate on a Jeep.

Tools that you'll need:

  • Torque wrench
  • Metric wrench set
  • Metric socket set

Step 1: To begin, you need to remove the top bolts on your vehicle's bumper. If your vehicle has tow hooks, you need to remove them as well. Set aside the nuts, bolts, and hooks that you removed because you may need them later on.

Step 2: Getethe flat washers included in the winch kit and place them over the threaded holes of the frame. The washers will serve as spacers that will allow the plate to install flat because they will offsetethe thickness of the bumper.

Step 3: To make the job easier, you may want to install the winch to the winch plate before proceeding. This may vary from product to product, so make sure you check the installation manual first.

Step 4: Next, position the plate onto the frame, making sure that the threaded holes are all aligned. Secure the plate in place by inserting the bolts and lock washers through each hole.

Step 5: To make sure that the bolts are threaded properly, you can apply anti-seize compound to each of them.

Step 6: After that, you may reinstall the tow hooks that you removed earlier if your vehicle has them.

Step 7: Before you tighten the bolts of the frame, examine all the threaded holes first and be on the lookout for any cross threading fasteners.

Step 8: If there aren't any cross threading fasteners in the holes, you may go ahead and torque the bolts to the specified torque measurement.
