We are Patrick and Orla, Novice filmmakers who follow ‘The adventures of an overlanding Labrador Retriever 🐶 and his Land Rover Defender 🚙’ On our adventures we do a lot of hiking and off road routes. But the most important thing is being together and enjoying each others company. We try to learn as much as we can about traveling and overlanding with Lewie. This to complete our ultimate big upcoming adventure.

More from Lewie and the Rover

In a world where the spirit of adventure beckons the bold, a couple named Patrick and Orla, along with their dog Lewie, embarked on a transformative journey with their small Land Rover. Their mission? To retrofit this compact vehicle into a robust camper capable of carrying them across the globe on a months-long expedition.

A Community of Passion and Craftsmanship

At the heart of their venture lies a profound appreciation for the Land Rover brand, celebrated not just for its iconic vehicles but for the vibrant community it fosters.

Engineering a Dream

Their Land Rover Defender 90, a 2004 model renowned for its agility in off-road conditions, presented a unique challenge: maximizing space within its compact frame. Despite its size, the vehicle boasts a TD5 engine, enhanced by Patrick and Orla  adding a bigger turbo and chip tuning to achieve approximately 210 horsepower. This power, coupled with an array of upgrades including a transfer box from a Discovery 2 for improved cruising, ensures their journey will be both efficient and exhilarating.

A Vision of Utility and Comfort

Adorned with robust 16-inch Bowler rims and BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, their Defender is prepared for the diverse terrains they’ll encounter. The addition of an Old Man Emu suspension elevates the vehicle by 6 cm, optimizing it for overland travel. Practical modifications, like a safari snorkel and a road shower, underscore their commitment to both functionality and self-sufficiency on the road.

Inside the Rover: A Compact Abode

The interior transformation of the Defender is where ingenuity truly shines. A custom two-level setup creates a dedicated space for Lewie, and maximizes storage for essentials, from cooking supplies to clothing. The Dometic CFX3 fridge, paired with a gear slider, ensures convenience and accessibility, while Exmoor Trim leather seats offer comfort during long drives. Their Blue Yeti power bank, complemented by solar panels, guarantees that they stay powered up and connected, irrespective of their remote locales.

The Road Ahead

As Patrick and Orla gear up for their grand adventure, their Land Rover stands as a testament to meticulous planning and heartfelt passion. From the deserts to the jungles, this small 4×4, now a fully-fledged home on wheels, is ready to explore the vast tapestry of our world. Their story is more than a journey; it’s a celebration of the roads less traveled and the unforgettable experiences that await when one dares to dream big.

In their meticulously customized Land Rover, Patrick, Orla, and Lewie are not just travelers; they’re pioneers of a modern nomadic lifestyle, proving that with vision, determination, and a little bit of engineering wizardry, the world can be anyone’s to explore.
