Body Mount Kit
Extreme temperatures, dips and bumps on the roads, burnouts.all these can take their toll on your vehicle's suspension. The vehicle body may no longer be as flexible, agile, and sturdy as it used to be, after years of driving and reaching thousands of miles. Fortunately, the old body mount can be replaced with something better and new. A new body mount kit can whip your car back into shape. What are body mounts for?
Body mounts lift the body frame of the vehicle, giving it additional tire clearance. This is especially true for SUVs and off-road vehicles. Another benefit of replacing old body mounts or upgrading to a new and improved body mount kit is that proper vehicle body-to-frame alignment is secured, same with the truck cab and bed. A properly maintained and adjusted vehicle suspension can lead to reduced body roll and enhanced handling.
What are they made of?
Body mounts are typically made of rubber and polyurethane.
Rubber body mounts. Most trucks, SUVs, and off-road vehicles come with OEM rubber body mounts. Rubber mounts can provide better cushion compared to mounts manufactured from polyurethane since rubber is softer. However, factory-installed rubber mounts may crack, break, or get distorted after some time.
Some kits come with neoprene mounts for longer service life. What's good about this synthetic rubber is that it's flexible. It can handle varying temperature ranges well. Meanwhile, some body cushions may also be manufactured from rubber that uses an advance EPDM formula. This ensures optimum UV and ozone resistance.
Polyurethane body mounts. A polyurethane body mount kit is often used when replacing old OEM rubber mounts. Polyurethane mounts are best used for lifted suspensions and vehicles with larger tires. The more rugged polyurethane is more durable. Mounts made of this material are also known for their stable performance.
Some body mount kits use hyper-flex polyurethane mounts. These are softer than the usual polyurethane material, providing better cushion for a smoother ride. At the same time, they're also more rigid and rugged. They can usually withstand the harshest road and track conditions because of the advance polyurethane formula used to ensure utmost strength.
Other materials. Some body mount kits feature stainless steel hardware, an upgrade to the brittle, old material used in different steering and suspension components. Aluminum, on the other hand, is not a highly recommended material for body mounts. Aluminum mounts are not best for street use as they can easily break and cause other components to easily wear out as well.
When buying a body mount kit, what are the things to consider?
Body mount kits not only come in different materials but also in varied applications. The kit should specifically match the specs and requirements of your vehicle. It should also include all the necessary hardware for direct installation.
When replacing old rubber mounts, a polyurethane body mount kit isn't your only option. More improved rubber materials are now used in new body mounts that you can use to raise the height of the vehicle or to maintain sound suspension.
