But having the suspension lifted isn't just about giving your vehicle a more rugged look. The lift will also give more space to the wheel well so that it can house bigger wheels. So as you travel through rough roads, terrains, or grounds filled with potholes, the chassis and body of the vehicle won't necessarily have to suffer, get dented, and be scratched all over. The raised vehicle height will keep the vehicle's undercarriage safe from kicked-up debris, rocks, and mud. You can get 4- to 6-inch increase in vehicle height if you decide to have the suspension system modified. In doing so, you may need a suspension lift component box to complete the project. The upgrade is best done with this package, aside from a well-chosen suspension lift kit.

What factors should be considered when using a suspension lift component box?

Component boxes aren't built the same. Some of them are meant to match a particular suspension lift or ride height. So before you pick a component box, first see to it that it matches the lift kit that you have or will be using on the vehicle. Some lift kits may also require the use of other components, such as a new drag link. Slight modifications such as drilling and cutting may be needed as well. You have to be aware of the requirements for the suspension lift so you can have on hand all the needed components, fasteners, and mounting hardware.

How do you raise the height of the vehicle using a suspension lift component box? What are tools needed and the steps required for completing this project?

For this project, you'll need the following tools and materials:

  • The right lift component box
  • Socket set
  • Wrench set
  • Wheel chocks
  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Measuring tape

Note: The task is a bit difficult. So if you don't have enough experience in modifying the vehicle using a suspension lift component box, you might as well leave this to a professional.

Tip: Do this on a well-lit area or garage. Make sure that your vehicle is parked on a level ground.

Step 1: Put the parking brake on and place the wheel chocks on the rear wheels. Using a floor jack, lift the vehicle. The jack stands, placed at the back of the front spring shackles, should be used to support and carry the load.

Step 2: Pull out the shocks, the main suspension assembly, and the u-bolts after removing the front tires. For different vehicle models, different suspension components will have to be removed such as coil springs, leaf springs, or struts. Tie rods, anti-sway bars, ABS lines, torsion bars, and other parts may also have to be taken out.

Step 3: Use the kit's main suspension assembly. Install all the necessary parts in the assembly such as studs, bars, struts, and u-bolts. All of these will be included in the suspension lift component box. Remember to hold off on tightening the leaf springs. This should be done when the car is lowered.

Step 4: Put back the front tires. In some vehicles, a turning radius block may be used to check if the inner face of the wheel touches any component that it shouldn't be in contact with. If so, do the necessary adjustments.

Step 5: Make sure that there's enough clearance between parts of the assembly using a measuring tape. Once everything checks out, you can finally tighten the components based on their specs. After this, you have to bring down the vehicle from its raised position.

Basically, the same steps can be done for the vehicle's rear end. There could, however, be slight changes according to the type of rear suspension system, the suspension lift component box used, and the attachments involved. The whole task can take about 2 to 4 hours.
